Nockberge mountains

The gently rolling Nockberge Mountains form the exceptional and distinctive mountain scenery in the north of Carinthia. The unmistakable appearance of the rounded “Nock’n” are geological rarities and unique in the entire region of the Alps.

In 1987 this pristine landscape was awarded its status as National Park to promote the originality of the region, protect fauna and flora and provide visitors with an impressive natural experience. Stretching over 184 km2 in the Gurk Valley Alps, the Nockberge national park provides numerous well-signposted trails to explore the unique natural scenery during hiking tours whether alone or with a guide. The ride or drive in the Nockberge Mountains is a lasting experience for every nature lover.

The almost 35 km Nockalm road encompasses numerous gentle bends and easy ascents ideal for excursions by car or motorbike. Along the road authentic Carinthian fare comes to table in several rustic inns and huts.
